Remove Audio from Video
Strip the sound and leave the picture exactly as it is. Nothing is re-encoded, so it takes seconds, and the file never leaves your device.
MP4 · MOV · WebM · MKV — Your file is never uploaded; it is processed on this device only. No sign-up, no watermark, no limits.
How to remove audio from a video
- Press “Choose a video file” and pick the video.
- Press “Remove audio”.
- Press the download button when it appears. You get the same format with the sound taken out.
The sound is removed, not turned down
A video file holds picture data and sound data separately. Instead of lowering the volume to zero, this tool leaves the sound data out and copies only the picture data into a new file. The result has no audio track at all, and because the picture is not compressed again it is identical to the original down to the pixel. The file also gets a little smaller by the size of the sound.
Everything happens inside your browser. After a one-time download of the editing engine (about 2.6 MB) the video is not sent anywhere, so you can safely handle clips that recorded a nearby conversation or a phone call.
What it is good for
- Distracting background noise — wind, construction or people talking nearby.
- Adding new music — if you will choose a track inside Shorts, Reels or TikTok, removing the original sound first keeps things clean.
- Copyright worries — music playing in a shop or at an event can get the sound blocked or monetization limited after you post.
- Privacy — share what the picture shows without the conversation that was recorded with it.
- Slides and website background videos — a clip that needs no sound cannot start playing sound by accident.
Tools that go with it
If you need only the sound, Extract audio gives you an audio file. To keep only a section, choose it first with Trim video and then remove the sound. Silencing only part of a clip or adjusting volume is not something this tool does; that needs an editing program.
Before you post
A video without sound plays everywhere as usual, but the speaker button in a player may look switched off or not appear at all. That is normal for a file with no audio track. YouTube, Instagram and TikTok accept silent videos as they are, and you can add music or narration inside the app afterwards. Even when the preview cannot open a format, the sound can still be removed from MP4, MOV and MKV files. The original is not changed; a new file with “-muted” at the end of its name is created, so the two are easy to tell apart.
FAQ
Does removing the sound change the picture quality?
No. The picture data is copied as it is without being compressed again.
Can I get the sound back later?
Not from the result, which has no audio in it. Your original file is not changed, so keep it.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
Can I mute only part of the video?
This tool removes the sound of the whole clip. Muting a section needs an editing program.
